ALESSANDRO MENDINI, "LA COLONNIA DI VENINI"

Renowned Italian glassmaker Venini
celebrated "ninety years of passion for glass"
with an exhibition at Milan's Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi.

This brilliant collection of glass objects & lighting,
began with Fulvio Bianconi's 1940's design "Fazzoletto" .....
and included the most recent, unique sculpture
of broken & reassembled glass  "Fragments"
created by the Campana brothers.

Installing this extraordinary selection
of iconic & new works
amongst the museum's Renaissance collection of
paintings, sculpture, armour,
furniture, & accessories ....
was ingenious!!!!

I love the unique book projects created by Moleskine (see blog 10/16/09) and "The Hand of the Designers," curated by Francesca Serrazanetti and Matteo Schubert, and design expert Doia Giovanola, is no exception. The book is a collection if 462 reproductions of original designs and never--before-seen works by 150 internationally celebrated designers, including Karim Rashid, the Campana Brothers, Jaime Hayon, Pierro Lissoni, and Alessandro Mendini. It will be presented next month during Milan Design Week 2010, and is a fund-raising project to support the Italian National Trust.

The book," is an intimate look into the creative process of the designer, and a celebration of the everlasting power of free hand sketching even in the AutoCAD era. The general look has the familiar look of a Moleskine notebook, which indicates a visual connection to the sketchbooks often adopted by designers. The dimensions are those of the A4 Folio collection, with all the iconic features of the  Moleskine brand: Hard rounded corner cover, elastic band, ribbon place markers. The only (and most noticeable change):the cover is white." The book also includes a 120 blank drawing pages for notes and sketches.

"Collections" and  "accessorations" go hand-in-hand and I think a complete collection of the "special" books published by Moleskine would be fabulous .... and something we should all have on our bookshelves!!!!

The newest incarnation of the Proust armchair!!!!

I have been looking everywhere for this chair that I adore ..... I was determined see it's incredible color, rather than the weak colored pictures that are available!!!!!! Imagine my surprise when I was in Vancouver last week and the chair was there too!!!! Sitting proudly in the window of the most fabulous contemporary, designer furniture store I have ever been in, Inform (more to come about Inform, it is amazing!!!). Originally, designed by Italian designer and architect Alessandro Mendini in 1978 and produced by Cappellini, it has had many incarnations ........ from the paint dabbed "Poltrana di Proust" to the current "Proust Geometrica."  While retaining it's shape, the recent update in this geometric pattern of hot, bright colors is"the accessorator's" favorite!!!!!

Now that I've finally found it, in all of it's  "extraordinary plumage"......... I must, must, must have it .........immediately!!!! It's the one piece that will make a room ..... the ultimate "accessoration"........ the grand finale!!!!!
