Rotterdam's Galerie VIVID presented "ContainersII"
by Antwerp design geniuses Studio Job ...
at Design/Miami 2011.

The project began with the designers discovery of a collection
of incomplete antique crystal pieces
at the warehouses of Belgian crystal manufacturer

They incorporated five vessels into this paradoxical work .....
referencing the contrasts of today ....
function & surreal, rich & poor, good & evil,
fantasy & reality,
and high & low culture.

I think all of the pieces are fabulous "accessorations" ......
but the "Stewpan" is my particular favorite!!!

It's definitely a "boat" that could "sail" across my bookcase!!!

Renowned Italian glassmaker Venini
celebrated "ninety years of passion for glass"
with an exhibition at Milan's Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi.

This brilliant collection of glass objects & lighting,
began with Fulvio Bianconi's 1940's design "Fazzoletto" .....
and included the most recent, unique sculpture
of broken & reassembled glass  "Fragments"
created by the Campana brothers.

Installing this extraordinary selection
of iconic & new works
amongst the museum's Renaissance collection of
paintings, sculpture, armour,
furniture, & accessories ....
was ingenious!!!!

This exciting "selling exhibition," a joint venture between Sotheby's UK, Studley Castle, and Carpenters Workshop Gallery showcases a series of one-off and limited edition pieces by leading international contemporary designers and artists. The works are utilitarian pieces that can work as functional objects or pieces that can be appreciated as works of art with "profound aesthetic appeal."

According to Alexander Planton & Simon Stock, Sotheby's curators of the Sudeley exhibition "Contemporary design is an area of the international art market that ha been making waves in recent years and the Sudeley show will present works by some of the boldest and most visionary talents in the field of design today."

Carpenters Workshop in London, one of the premier galleries featuring contemporary design, is know for encouraging up-and-coming young artists, as well as presenting extraordinary works from established artists such as Ron Arad, Marteen bas, Wendell Castle. This joint venture is the latest project that the gallery is involved in "to promote the careers and foster the careers of contemporary designers through exhibiting unique and limited-edition works in solo and group exhibitions and at international art and design fairs. It also aims to expose the public to the latest design aesthetic, enriching and enlightening the contemporary design landscape and discourse."

Sudeley Castle is located in the Cotswold Hills in Gloucestershire. It was the royal household of Queen Katherine Parr during Tudor times. It is currently the home of Lady Ashcombe and the Dent-Brocklehurst family, who are dedicated to the restoration of the castle and it's gardens, with a particular emphasis on environmental sustainability. Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst has presented several exhibitions at the castle and says of this installation ..... "A thousand years of history at Sudeley represents a thousand years of design and creation and it is wonderful to be presenting such a current and visually exciting exhibition that is in such striking contrast to the historic castle itself."

I think this unique exhibition .....  the scope of the work is brilliant,
and the stunning surroundings add an extraordinary dimension to the collection!!!!

Milan 2010 #2.......7 Light Objects by a Dynamic Duo!!!

Drawings of the 7 light objects

"Light Bulbs" from Pieke Bergmans

Dutch designer Pieke Bergmans (see blog 12/3/09) joins Dutch design studio, Studio Job (see blog 12/3/09) to create Wonderlamp, a collection of 7 light objects. The pieces were done in associate with Milanese gallery Dilmos and will be presented next month at the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair.

Studio Job is known to create fantasy, over-sized cast bronze objects and Pieke Bergmans, who works with a wide variety of materials, has used handblown glass to create amorphous shaped objects, including vases slipping off a table (see blog 12/3/09) and "melting or deflating"  light bulbs. Their current collaboration combines a variety of her large blown-glass light bulbs with the monumental "ordinary" objects (including a teapot, a flash light, and a pipe) made by Sudio Job. Combining fantasy and reality, these pieces will definitely be among the most interesting and imaginative works in Milan.

I can't wait to see these "design/art accessorations" and look forward to showing you images of the actual pieces from Milan!!!

"Vases" by Jaime Hayon ...... at Bisazza, Paris!!!!!!!

J'adore Spanish design guru Jaime Hayon ...... Maison et Object's designer of the year!!!! Remember the fantastical giant chess game at London Design week (blog 9/25/10) ..... incredible!!! This past week in Paris, luxury Italian tile company Bisazza had a stunning installation of "The Pixel Vases Collection" designed by Hayon. Using his "family of figures" for shapes, as well as glass mosaic patterns, Hayon created these 20 limited edition handmade ceramic vessels. Each piece is exhibited on it's own unique shaped pedestal, complementing it's design. The color palette is the whitest of whites as the base color, then accented with black, white, red, and metallic gold & silver tile ...... pretty fabulous!!!!

Bisazza is the premier producer of glass mosaic tiles; interior & exterior, decorative & commercial. To creatively extend their "luxe" brand identity the company continues their collaboration with some of the most significant designer of this generation, including Tord Boontje, Marcel Wanders, Paola Navone, and Andrée Putnam. The extensive collection of limited edition works includes giant silver tiled objects from Studio Job, large gold tiled pieces from Alessandro Mendini, a spectacular tile folding screen from Patricia Urquiola, and tiled furniture from artist Sandro Chia. The editions are featured at Bisazza stores worldwide.

I adore Bisazza and would love to "accessorate" with any object they produce ....... especially the Marcel Wanders tables ...... wait till you see them next week!!!!!!! DIVINE!!!
