My favorite bookstore in all the world
has moved from Santa Monica
to the hip & happening Culver City ...
and it's fantastic!!!!

Owner Lee Kaplan's extraordinary selection of
over 100,000 rare & out of print books,
specializing in 20th Century art, architecture,
design & photography,
is sublime!!!

Lee is my go-to
"book accessorator supreme"!!!

I have been known to call him from all over the world
looking for the most obscure book
& he always has it
or finds it!!!!

So when you're in LA this is an absolute

In Milan ..... What An Unusual Way to Stack Books!!!!

exhibited
a collection of the work of furniture dealer/artist
at Design/Miami 2012.

The installation created by gallery owner
a great friend & collector of Loughlin's work,
celebrated the legendary artist.

A dealer since the 60's, Loughlin began painting
his signature motifs on
"found" recycled furniture" .....
picked-up at flea markets & thrift stores
in the 80's.

His quirky signature motifs included ...
a man with a cigarette,
Zippo lighters & other thematic emblems
of the times.

Johnson has also published a book titled
featuring his collection of furniture
with Loughlin's iconic imagery.

I adored the pieces but,
had a special response to the mirror,
which has a logo sticker with the Greek letters
of my college sorority ...
Sigma Delta Tau!!!

Very 1960's ....
now considered very vintage!!!

Everything I've read about the newly opened
designed by internationally renowned architects
says that it's " all about the light"!!!

Historically the East End of Long Island has attracted
artists because of it's spectacular light!!!

Parish Director Terrie Sultan says one of the goals
of the museum's design
is to give its visitors the opportunity
to see the museum collection
"in the same light as the artists,
when they created the work."

Herzog & de Meuron Senior Partner
also referenced the light of the area ....
"The beautiful landscape and this light
is a very important form of inspiration to us."

Unfortunately thus far,
I have only gotten to see the museum at night .....
and I must report that it is spectacular!!!

But undoubtedly ......
I know I'll be seeing it in daylight soon!!!
